I love pomegranate fruit and i will love to have my own tree but i don't know if the tree is going to do good in Utah, I am 5 min from down town. I heard that some people grow them just as ornamental, is that even possible here in Utah?

Based on the site below, I’d say no. From other things I’ve read, we (in Utah) have it too cold and too dry.
The key phrase from the Bay Flora website that led me to this negative conclusion was: “Winter chill requirements are low, less than 200 hours below 40 degrees F.”
The average minimum temp in Utah in October is 41 F, November 30 F, December 22 F, January 21 F and February 26 F.
It sounds like the tree would die quickly from the freeze.
You could also ask a local nursery owner. They could tell you their experience with such trees and could possibly recommend another ornamental.
pomegranates can surivie to 5 degrees for about 6-7 hours maxium. if you have more than 7 hours of temperatures below 5 degrees per winter then some protection will be needed. wraping it in burlap is a good idea as well as mulch. this will allow it to surivie temps as low as -3 degrees.
if you get colder than -3 degrees at anytime in the winter then a pomegranate probably wont surivive your winter.
good luck
